The postmodernist movement, which broke away from functionalism-centered modernism to pursue an aesthetic of curves and irregular forms, spread across Europe in the mid-1980s. 

This candle holder’s distinctive rhythmic wave structure is a symbolic objet that well represents the unconventional, playful design tendencies of the time.
